>>Movie Buffs your help is Needed<< Need to know a movie title...?

I remember once seeing a movie on TV its an older one i know that. still in color. idk any of the actors, character names, anything. all i know is the basic storyline is something about this kid goes up in the aircraft with his father some kind of fighter pilot. and i remember 1 specific scene is them in the plane and the dad gets the flight command or w/e radioing him cause they heard his kids cette player though his dads radio. something happens the dad is shot down, crashes something and i believe is taken hostage. the kid and i think his friends too sneak in and spend a week or w/e with the janitor i think he is training in flight simulators and then steal planes to go get the kids dad back. and i think the kid just keeps remembering the janitor's advice as a voice over throughout the whole flight or the janitor goes up with them cause hes an ex pilot too. Can anyone help me figure out what movie this is?
