What is the best technolog for crown lengthening (gum contouring)?

My daughter has very small stained teeth. The periodontist recommended cutting the gum to increase the tooth length. When I looked on line, some periodontists use lasers for this. The periodontist my daughter is seeing does not. What is the difference between using a laser and not using a laser? Should I find someone else?
