Puppy with an Umbilical Hernia?

I have a 7 week old male German shepherd pup. Before we got him the breeder let us know he had an unbelical hernia. After a little research we decided to take him anyway. I've read up on them so I know I should be maging the "bubble" so that the hole can seal. But I was wondering how often should I do this? It seems to fill up very quickly. In the time it took me to type this it has filled back up to the diameter of a dime. It is very soft and goes away quickly though.
